Blessed are the Watchkeepers

Years ago, Arthur S. Maxwell shared a story in his Bedtime Stories series about a young man who interviewed for a job as a farmhand. As the story goes, the Farmer asked applicants, “Why should I hire you?” While many of the young applicants bragged about their incredible physical prowess, smarts, or productivity, this young man said, “I can sleep on windy nights.”

The Farmer thought that was strange, but he liked the kid and decided to take a chance on him despite his peculiar answer. The Farmhand worked hard around the farm, proving himself robust, intelligent, and productive, but the Farmer often wondered about the Farmhand’s strange answer.

Several months later, a brutal storm woke the Farmer and his wife in the early hours. He jumped out of bed, ran to wake the Farmhand. “Get up!” He yelled over the wind. “This storm is getting violent, and it is going to cause intense damage to the farm!”

The Farmhand sleepily turned and crawled back into bed. “No sir,” he said, “I can sleep on windy nights.” The Farmer, enraged, slammed the door and ran out to survey the farm, hoping to secure whatever had not already blown away. As he rushed from outbuilding to outbuilding, he was surprised to discover that each was carefully secured, shutters securely fastened, the wood box filled to bursting, and haystacks and livestock tucked safely away. The Farmhand made sure that at the end of the day, the work was done and could sleep soundly knowing, that the farm was safe and prepared for just about anything.

This is precisely what Blue Mountain Broadcasting Watchkeepers do for viewers!

Giving regular monthly gifts keeps things finances steady when a piece of equipment goes down, or software requires an update. It keeps our building in good repair and invests in talented, energetic, and mission-hearted employees.

Giving a small monthly gift may not seem important or create an impact, but monthly giving is the security and preparation required when the storms hit and things go sideways.  Watchkeepers give us the gift of sleeping on windy nights.

If you aren’t already, become a Watchkeeper today!

If you are a Watchkeeper, consider increasing your monthly gift by a few dollars. You offer viewers the opportunity to spend time with Jesus, some for the very first time.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”  2 Corinthians 9:7-8
